Bairro Alto. Cais do Sodré. Intendente. Lux Frágil at 4.

Bairro Alto is a vertical bar crawl. Cais do Sodré used to be the sailor district and still carries that character. Intendente has the legal regulated industry. Lux Frágil is the techno club worth queuing for. A city that does its nightlife slowly and well.

Where to stay in Lisbon

Stay in Príncipe Real if you want walking distance to the main district and don't mind paying for it. Cais is the mid-range play — ten minutes by transit, better hotels for the money, locals at the bar after midnight. The off-centre option — two transit stops out — costs about half and adds a taxi back after 02:00. Pick the one that matches what you're optimising for.
